"the plans that were, the plans that are"

So, I guess some introductions are in order, After all; What's a Webcomic without an exciting cast?
I work in an office, a call centre to be precise, Its not glorious but it pays the bills.
In fact I've always thought of call centres as air-traffic holding paterns. It seems people are never tehre permanently, but just waiting for their plane to land, no child ever sat up in bed at night fervently hoping to grow up and work in a call centre. But it is a bustling office of bored schlubs, taking customer service calls for minimum wage.
How does this tie-in?
Well the original idea had been to turn this into the basis of the Strip, Matt & his friend Mike would move through their day having Dilbert-esque adventures.
But as all Artistic creation's do, as the character's evolved, they started dictating the kind of stories which would be best for them. Matt & Mike quickly grew to reflect separate halfs of my own personality.
Mike is drawn differently in earlier strips, he never felt right unitl I drew him in suit jacket over a high-neck sweater, He's uptight like that. He is an orphan and is also incredibly smart, with certain expectations about the world, becoming easily frustrated when the world doesn't conform, this often gets him in trouble, but then that's why he carries a gun.
Matt is laid back, and exudes a certain cool charm, he's more the dumb sidekick, he gets along with everyone, and occasionally needs rescuing. He's a good guy, with a big heart, and provides the perfect counter balance to Mike. They've been best friends since childhood. (any family members that appear are Matt's, though due to their long close friendship Mike will see them as family to)
The first few strips stayed close to these themes but all of a sudden I found myself overflowing with chicken jokes, I'm also a Cat person. So for some reason when the support cast started showing up, Plucky the incredibly stupid yet lovable chicken, and the as yet unamed cute little pussycat were the first to make regular appearances.
It kind of grew from there.

And, as much of this site will revolve around me and my artwork, perhaps it's good to introduce myself, My name is Kale, like Mike i'm an orphan, & overly smart in the kind of way that never benefits my day to day life. but in temperament I'm much more Matt these days, I've had more than my fair share of disappointments, and that keeps things in perspective really, (last year was the most difficult on record for me, and was a huge growth period, but more oin that another time)

So cheers,
-K
