Michael Who

Michael Vick. You may of heard of him but we'll come back to that.

We're endlessly told the world is getting smaller, that we live in a global village, and somedays it does feel that small. And then, theres a huge news story, like The Washington Post not running Tank Mcnamara this week because it features jokes about Michael Vick. But then that's not really the big news story, just how I found out about it.

See, I'm an Australian, and I'd never heard of this Michael Vick guy before today.

But you probably have heard about him, the illegal Dogfighting ring, the prison sentence, the bankruptcy, the tearful apologies, Arthur Blank (owner of the NFL philadelphia Eagles, for whom Michael Vick was a player) saying he didn't want him anymore, and despite all of this, Michael eventually being reinstated as an NFL player.

But these are things I've only learnt about today via google & digg.

And so I'm sitting here going What? DogFighting ring? surely someones making that up? Does that even happen?

And this is despite my nightly news displaying a seemingly endless string of disgraced Sports stars recently, from Wayne Carey to Matthew Johns and many others.

And yet, I'm sure any American readers would be going "Who?"

Well, lets just say they didn't do anything nearly as ridiculous and over-the-top as Dogfighting (not that it was less distasteful, just more mundane)

And as for Global Village, or the concept of it being a small world? Well, that still seems a fair distance off
